A television can be an eyesore, they become an unwanted central focus of a room or detract from the design of your home.
Does that statement match how you feel about you're the TV in your living room or bedroom, or do you simply want to regain some space? Well then building your TV into a cabinet might be the answer.
For a long time ‘Hidden TVs’ that would slide up out of a cabinet or down from the ceiling at the touch of a button were seen on shows like MTV Cribs in millionaires' mansions and were considered an exclusive item of the rich and famous, but not anymore.
These days you can purchase a motorised TV lift mechanism starting from around £200 and install it inside an existing cabinet or on a wall behind a cabinet, and with some you can even install them in a ceiling space, so they slide down into the room.
You do need to make sure you buy the correct kit that fits your TV as well as the cabinet it will be setup in so, please read our guide to choosing the right TV lift.
If you don't have a cabinet large enough to accommodate your television, or you just don't want to go cutting into an existing one, then build your own. YouTube woodworker Jon Peters shares some video tutorials on building a TV lift cabinet from scratch.
